Ron's Recap: November 15, 2019

Assembly Bill 470, creating 12 new judges around the state, passed the Assembly this week! This bill allows for the creation of up to 12 new circuit court judges in the next several years.
The last time circuit court judgeships were created was in 2007, and workload has only increased in the last decade, particularly in Calumet County, which has seen more than a 40 percent increase in criminal case filings from 2015 to 2018. I am very hopeful Calumet County will get one of the new judges if this bill become law! The bill now heads to the State Senate.

 GridEx Emergency Preparedness Exercise

This week, the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs took part in the GridEx V Exercise.
GridEx V is part of a national exercise series held every two years. It is designed to practice and review plans for dealing with a long-term mass power outages, while developing the capability to respond to a cyber-incident targeting the electric grid in Wisconsin. The exercise also focuses on building partnerships between the government and the private sector, so we can develop the policies and plans needed to respond to any natural disaster or man-made attack that affects utility infrastructure.
Thanks to the Wisconsin National Guard, WI Emergency Management, as well as private sector contributors for participating in this important exercise. Thanks to you, Wisconsin is better prepared to face and conquer any crisis!

  Blue Book Trivia

It's Friday! You know what that means! It’s time for some trivia!

Last week, I asked: “How many congressional districts are there in Wisconsin? Too easy? Can you name the representative of each?" The correct answer is that there are eight congressional districts in Wisconsin and the representatives are:

  • 1st CD – Bryan Steil
  • Mark Pocan
  • Ron Kind
  • Gwen Moore
  • 5th CD – James Sensenbrenner Jr.
  • 6th CD – Glenn Grothman
  • 7th CD – Vacant (Rep. Duffy resigned in September of this year)
  • 8th CD – Mike Gallagher

This week’s trivia question is: During the Progressive Era, which Wisconsinite served multiple terms as Governor, then ran for president and won the state of Wisconsin?
Don’t know the answer? Contact my office (Rep.Tusler@legis.wisconsin.gov) to get your FREE Blue Book and find out the answer!

Honoring Our Veterans

On Veterans Day, we paused to honor the brave men and women who served our great nation in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marie Corps, or Coast Guard. Thank you to our nation’s veterans and to those currently serving. May God bless you and keep you safe!

USMCA is Vital for Wisconsin

Passage of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) is critical to the economic health of Wisconsin’s farmers, manufacturers, and small businesses. Canada and Mexico are by far the two largest U.S. export markets. In 2018, trade with the two countries reached nearly $1.4 trillion. Currently, trade with our North American neighbors supports 12 million American jobs across the country. I support the USMCA and I hope Congress approves it soon! Read more about how the USMCA will help Wisconsin businesses and workers below.
