Ron's Recap: May 29, 2020

Ron and baby Kitsy.jpg

This week, my family welcomed our second child into the world! Caroline "Kitsy" May Tusler was born early Wednesday morning.  She was born on May 27, 2020.  Her older sister’s birthday was May 27,2020.  What a fun coincidence! Devon, Kitsy, Maddie, and I are all doing well.

I would like to thank the Theda Clark hospital staff for keeping everyone safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. My wife and I felt very safe while bringing our daughter into this world!

 Getting Answers From DWD

I am so disappointed with the Department of Workforce Development’s response to thousands of good people waiting for their unemployment compensation.  My office continues to receive daily inquiries from concerned individuals who lost their jobs because of the statewide shut down. Many residents from the 3rd Assembly District have had to wait many weeks to hear from Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development about their Unemployment Insurance or Pandemic Unemployment Insurance. I will continue to demand that DWD resolves these outdated claims.  On behalf of the State of Wisconsin, I apologize to everyone suffering from this unacceptable delay.

On Tuesday, May 26, Wisconsin State Fair board voted unanimously to authorize Chairman Yingling to make the determination on whether events currently scheduled at State Fair Park, including the 2020 Wisconsin State Fair, are to be canceled. On Thursday, Chairman Yingling announced that for the safety of fairgoers, staff, vendors, entertainers, exhibitors, sponsors, suppliers and the broader community, the 2020 Wisconsin State Fair has been canceled.

Pools and Youth Programs Cancelled in Appleton

The City of Appleton has made the decision not to open municipal pools this year. In addition, all summer Parks and Recreation youth sporting events and programming will be canceled. The safety of the public and staff, social gathering limitations and social distancing recommendations provided by the Department of Health Services (DHS) all factored into the decision.

Last week, the City of Appleton reopened play areas, shelter reservation, tennis/basketball courts and the skateboard park with distancing guidelines. The city’s 30 parks, miles of trails and golf course remain open as well.
