Ron's Recap: May 17, 2019

Firefighter Mitchell F. Lundgaard.jpg

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Firefighter Mitchell F. Lundgaard who was killed in yesterday’s shooting, as well as the others who were injured. It is always especially tragic when a first responder is injured or killed in the line of duty. On behalf of my family and the Third Assembly District, you have our deepest sympathies.

 Born Alive Protection Act

On Wednesday, I voted in favor of Assembly Bill 179, which protects babies who are born alive after an botched abortion. These are abortions where a living, breathing baby is crying outside the womb on the operation table.

This Act requires medical care providers to treat the baby the same as any other newborn and transport the baby to a hospital for medical care.  Some of these babies will exit a botched abortion unharmed and live normal lives. Click here to hear their testimony.

I proudly voted for this common sense bill which protects the life of a living and breathing baby at the beginning of his or her life. Click here or on the image below to watch my reaction.

 Janet Berry Visits the Capitol

This past Wednesday, 4th graders form Janet Berry Elementary School stopped by the capitol to learn about our state government. I was very happy to talk with them about my job as a state legislator.

Boater Safety Week

With warmer weather upon us, many of us will hit the water on our boats this weekend and throughout the summer. However, boating accidents are prevalent in Wisconsin. Below are some sobering statistics about the reality of boating accidents:

o   Wisconsin typically ranks 4th highest nationally for most boating deaths

o   76% of boating deaths are due to drowning

o   84.5% of victims were not wearing life vests

o   2/3 of boating accident victims were good swimmers

Did you know anyone born on or after January 1, 1989 is required to complete a boating safety course to legally operate a motorized boat or personal watercraft (PWC) on Wisconsin waters? The DNR Conservation Wardens also recommend all boat operators complete a safety course.

To refresh yourself on the DNR boating laws handbook, please click here. Have fun, stay safe, and enjoy Wisconsin's beautiful waterways!
