 Big Brothers Big Sisters

Recently, I sat down with two knowledgeable leaders from Big Brothers Big Sisters to talk about the positive impact the program has on the community. I was impressed with the commitment and desire to help from the mentors at Big Brothers Big Sisters. Thank you to all of you who volunteer and help the youth in our community! If you or someone you know would like to give back, check out their website at http://www.bbbsfvr.org/ to see what you can do to help. Click here or on the image below to watch a video from the visit.

Wisconsin Leopold Conservation Award Seeks Nominees

Do you know a Wisconsin farmer or forester who goes above and beyond in the care and management of natural resources? Nominate them for the 2019 Wisconsin Leopold Conservation Award!

Sand County Foundation, the nation’s leading voice for the conservation of private land, presents the Leopold Conservation Award to private landowners in 13 states for extraordinary achievement in voluntary conservation. In Wisconsin the $10,000 award is presented annually by Sand County Foundation, Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin, and Wisconsin Land and Water Conservation Association.

Given in honor of renowned conservationist and UW Professor Aldo Leopold, the award recognizes landowners who inspire others with their dedication to land, water and wildlife habitat management on private, working land. In his influential 1949 book, “A Sand County Almanac,” Leopold called for an ethical relationship between people and the land they own and manage.

Nominations may be submitted on behalf of a landowner, or landowners may nominate themselves. The application can be found at: https://sandcountyfoundation.org/uploads/Wisconsin-2019-CFN.pdf.

Applications must be postmarked by August 5, 2019. Mail applications to:

2019 Hunting and Fishing Liscenses

  • 2019 hunting and fishing licenses are now available for purchase!  This is also the time of year to renew boat, ATV, UTV and off-highway motorcycle registrations.

  • March 18-24 is “Fix-a-Leak” Week.  DNR is partnering with U.S. EPA to remind homeowners that plumbing leaks can waste significant amounts of water and hike up the cost of water bills.  A few easy steps to resolve leaks can help save money and conserve water resources.
