November Floor Update

Welcome to my November E-Update. Attached below is information regarding two of my workforce bills that recently passed the Senate, legislation that is heading to the Governor aimed at helping residents of Washington Island, and my upcoming Sturgeon Bay listening session.

Helping Wisconsin's Workforce

Earlier this week, the Senate passed two of my workforce development bills, Senate Bill 44, Tools of the Trade, along with Senate Bill 72, Comprehensive Youth Apprenticeship Opportunities Act. The two measures significantly help youth working towards a career in the trades. Senate Bill 44 creates a grant program for students participating in apprenticeships to purchase tools for their education. Senate Bill 72 requires the Department of Workforce Development to develop curriculum in all 16 occupational areas as a “career cluster” for the youth apprenticeship program. My goal with these two bills is to make a career in the trades more accessible, and I look forward to the Assembly joining me.

Washington Island Observer

I read my local newspapers often and value the information they contain. I believe that the Washington Island population of 708 has just as much as a right to information as the rest of Door County.

That is why Representative Kitchens and I introduced AB 112, so island residents have access to the information regarding their local government. Thanks to AB 112, residents can see local government postings in their local newspaper.

I look forward to the Governor signing this bill in the coming weeks.

Reforming Stalking Laws

Recently the Senate passed SB 235, which updates and clarifies Wisconsin’s stalking statutes to ensure the effective prosecution of cyberstalking predators. Check out the link below to a story on this bill.
