Weekly Radio Address: Tax Cut for Middle Class Families

Madison…Rep. John Macco (R-Ledgeview) focuses on a middle class tax cut in the Weekly Radio Address for Wisconsin State Republicans.

Hello, I’m State Representative John Macco, Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Ways and Means.

I just co-chaired a joint hearing with my Senate counterpart – Senator Marklein of Spring Green – on a bill to provide income tax relief to the hard-working middle class families in Wisconsin.  This legislation will provide targeted income tax relief for families earning less than $150,000 a year.  It is projected that the median income family filing jointly would see a $310 reduction in their taxes per year.

My colleagues and I have taken a great deal of care to ensure that this proposal is targeted toward those who need it most.  Seventy-five percent of the benefit will go to taxpayers earning between $30,000 and $100,000 a year.

We are also doing this responsibly.  Thanks to the work of former Governor Walker and legislative Republicans over the last eight years, our state finances are in great shape!  Wisconsinites are working, state revenues are up and our debt is at the lowest level since 2009!  It is important to deliver this tax cut to you without raising taxes on local businesses and farmers, who put food on our table.

Working families in Wisconsin deserve to keep more of their hard-earned income.  Additional income could help pay for everyday expenses, such as groceries, clothing or caring for children.  I look forward to working with my colleagues here in the legislature to pass this important bill and I call on Governor Evers to follow through on his promise and provide tax relief to the hard-working middle class families of Wisconsin.

Thanks for listening and On Wisconsin!”
