Madison…Representative John Macco (R-Ledgeview) released the following statement following the U.S. Supreme Court (SCOTUS) decision on the South Dakota v. Wayfair case.

“Today’s decision is a win for main street businesses in Wisconsin.” said Rep. Macco. “For 26 years, Wisconsin’s brick and mortar shops have had to compete on an uneven field. This landmark ruling by the Supreme Court provides Wisconsin-built businesses a market of fair play.”

The ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court overturns the 1992 decision of Quill Corp. v. North Dakota that would have cost the State of Wisconsin $160 million this year alone.

“This ruling will provide a field of fair play between all retailers.” continued Rep. Macco “As Chair of the Ways and Means Committee, I have been leading the charge to create a low, fair and simple tax code. The SCOTUS ruling is a step in the right direction, our state’s tax laws must keep pace in the 21st century.”
