WHAT WE DO
The office of the Senate Chief Clerk and Director of Operations provides non-partisan advice and support to the Wisconsin State Senate and Senate Leadership on diverse matters, including:
- Parliamentary procedure and processing of legislation
- Senate budget and finances
- Production of the Senate Journal and Bulletin of Proceedings
- Legal issues affecting the Senate
- Senate records
It is a core mission of the office to assist Senate Leadership in protecting and enhancing the capacity of the Senate to effectively participate in the process of governing.
The Senate Chief Clerk is one of four officers of the Senate-the President, President Pro Tempore, Chief Clerk, and Sergeant-at-Arms. All are elected to 2-year terms at the beginning of the legislative session.
The Overriding Purpose of the Office of the Senate Chief Clerk and Director of Operations is to strengthen the effectiveness and efficiency of the Wisconsin State Senate, and thereby protect the freedoms of Wisconsin’s citizens.
