On August 17, 2009, Governor Doyle announced that he would not run for a third term. Doyle, a Democrat, was first elected in 2002. The next gubernatorial election will be held in 2010. Progressives count includes Orland Steen Loomis (elected 1942) who died prior to inauguration.
Whig Party had one 1-term governor (elected 1851).
