11. Nursing Home Tax

Background:
The nursing home bed assessment was created in 1991 as a means to support medical assistance nursing home rate increases. Currently, all nursing facilities are required to pay a $75 monthly assessment per licensed bed, and remit all payments to the Department of Health Services (DHS).  The Governor’s budget proposed to double that tax from $75 to $150 in 2009-10 and then add another $20 to $170 in 2010-11.

Outcome:
The nursing home bed tax increases were kept in the final version of the budget.
