Background:
Under current state law, a person can be liable for 100% of damages only if he or she is 51% or more at fault.  Governor Doyle’s proposal would have allowed a jury to hold a person who is only 1% at fault in an accident to be liable for 100% of the damages to the victim.

Outcome:
Thank you for your efforts in expressing your concern with the liability provisions in the budget.  Congratulations - you were successful in helping us convince legislative leadership that these changes had to go.  The new policy was removed from the budget so Wisconsin still has the current law.
