Flood Assistance Fairness for Bagley
Madison… As clean-up continues in areas hit by heavy rains and flooding across the region, the flood-ravaged Village of Bagley in Grant County is the town that FEMA overlooked. Most of Bagley’s 400 homes were damaged or destroyed, and Senator Dale Schultz is asking the federal emergency management administration to help the folks in this Mississippi River community. So far, FEMA help to Bagley is nowhere in sight. FEMA claims the damage in Bagley was a separate event and below the dollar threshold required for its own disaster declaration. Schultz first asked the FEMA regional office in Chicago to reconsider its action, and last week appealed to the head of FEMA in Washington D.C. to reverse its denial that is unfair to Bagley flood victims. The bottom line for Schultz is that FEMA help Bagley flood victims by setting July 18 as the start of the disaster period in the region. Dale joined area leaders in Bagley to view flood damage that resulted from this clogged railroad tressel. Dale is working with Wisconsin Emergency Management and the railroad to agree on responsibilities for maintenance of the tressel. |

| The Red Cross was in Bagley, giving aid and comfort to victims of severe flooding on July 18, 2007. Dale thanked several Red Cross volunteers for their selfless gift to help others. On Bagley’s behalf, Dale is advocating for FEMA disaster aid to supplement volunteer and charitable recovery assistance. |
