Another Session Day: No More Jobs
Madison – The Wisconsin State Senate, controlled by Republicans, met again today and did not vote on a single bill to create jobs, despite the loss of 3,900 jobs last month, the six consecutive month of job losses. The Senate will not be in again until February.
“Our constituents have the right to expect their elected officials to address the issues they care about, and jobs are a top priority for residents, Senate Democratic Leader Mark Miller stated. “It should be a priority for this Legislature, but it appears the Republicans are uninterested in creating jobs.”
Democrats again put forward proposals to get Wisconsin working. Yesterday Democrats rolled out a number of ideas from increasing training for workers to expanding small business opportunities to revitalize the economy and create jobs. Democrats called on Republicans to come to the table and work collectively on any number of bills.
Republicans’ record of tax breaks to wealthy corporations and special interests at the expense of programs like technical colleges that provide job training has not worked. Talented people remain unemployed.
“For the sake of Wisconsin’s workers, Republicans need to set aside their partisanship and start taking jobs bills—even if they’re authored by Democrats. We again today call on the Senate Republicans to hear the pleas of Wisconsinites and let’s get working,” concluded Miller.
