Community Reeling from Tragedy
Our community’s sense of safety was
shattered by violence on Sunday when a lone gunman entered the Sikh
Temple of Wisconsin in Oak Creek and opened fire. My thoughts and
prayers go out to the family, friends and neighbors of those wounded or
killed in the shooting.
At a time when such unabashed hatred tries to tear our community apart,
it is comforting to hear statements from Sikh neighbors continuing to
espouse their tradition of love. The response of the Sikh community and
neighbors across Wisconsin prove that we, as a society, are better than
this senseless killing.
Flags in Wisconsin have been ordered to fly at half-staff today to mourn those killed in Sunday's tragedy. The Wisconsin Council of Churches has also called on congregations across the state to come together in a Day of Prayer for the Sikh Community next Sunday, August 12.
