STATEMENT ON WALKER POLITICAL BUDGET GIMMICKS
(MADISON) Senator Lena C. Taylor (D-Milwaukee), Ranking Democrat on the Joint Committee on Finance, issued the following statement on the unusual DOA revenue estimates released yesterday.
“Once again, Scott Walker resorts to budget gimmicks and credit card spending in a political report on the budget which violates his own budget principles. In his brownbag movement, Governor Walker campaigned on ‘Don’t Spend More Than You Have’ and yesterday we learned his administration approved more credit-card spending to manipulate the numbers of the budget.
By borrowing money to pay for expenses, Scott Walker has increased the structural deficit and despite all his best attempts to spin the truth to the contrary this budget, which actually spends more than Gov. Doyle’s last budget, remains in deficit.
Walker and Republicans should be ashamed of issuing an unusually and politically timed report which does not have one ounce of integrity to the truth of the fiscal situation they are placing Wisconsin children and grandchildren in to pay for.”
