Madison - On Wednesday, the C0-Chair of the budget-writing Joint Committee on Finance, State Senator Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) issued the following statement regarding the Opportunity Schools and Partnership Program.
"Milwaukee needs leaders who will do the right thing. Milwaukee Public Schools have many quality schools, but more than 28,000 kids are trapped in schools that fail to meet expectation.
The delay in implementing the Opportunity Schools and Partnership Program means a delay in helping kids read and write. It means another lost generation to this status quo of failure.
It also means targeted support services won't be available for their parents and families. We can't afford any more delays.
It's time for the adults to put kids first and find a way to comply with the law. I won't give up on their future."
Senator Darling represents portions of Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington and Waukesha Counties.
