Darling Named Budget Co-Chair

Madison - State Senator Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) will return as co-chair of the state's budget-writing Joint Committee on Finance.

On Friday, State Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) re-appointed Senator Darling to the post. Senator Darling says she is looking forward to protecting taxpayers again.

"Last session, the budget contained no new sales or income taxes, simplified the tax code, and had the lowest bonding levels in 20 years," Darling said, "Wisconsin's pension is fully funded.  And according to the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance, our state has the lowest property tax burden since 1946.  That's a record I'm proud of, and I'm looking forward to doing more."

This will be the fifth legislative session that Senator Darling has served as the Senate Co-Chair of the budget committee.  Darling says every budget brings challenges and opportunities.

"It's important that we prioritize, spend less, and use what we have instead of asking for more," Darling said, "That's the way Wisconsin families do it and that's the way we need to operate in Madison."

Senator Darling represents portions of Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington and Waukesha Counties.
