Marklein Defends Rural Schools, Votes for Historic Increases for K-12 Education Funding
State Senator Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) voted for the education omnibus motion as a part of the Joint Finance Committee (JFC) today. The package includes historic increases to per pupil aid, flexibility for school districts, a Rural School Teacher Talent grant program and Mental Health Collaboration Grants.

Marklein: State Parks Given Tools to Continue Growing in State Budget
State Senator Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) moved Budget Motion #313 as a part of the Joint Finance Committee’s (JFC’s) Executive Session today to continue providing tools and flexibility to the state park system including funding for maintenance and improvements, raising the overall cap on electrical campsites and allowing the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to increase fees commensurate with demand.

Marklein: Joint Finance Committee Rejects Stewardship Land Purchase
On Monday, March 27, 2017, the legislature’s Joint Finance Committee (JFC) rejected a $346,045 Knowles-Nelson Stewardship grant to fund half the cost of 102.5 acres of land in Dane County known as the Nelson tract. The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) had previously paid the current owner $207,000 for a conservation easement on the property.
