Budget Committee Supports Additional Resources for Officer-Involved Shootings

MADISON - On Thursday, the co-chairs of the state's budget-writing Joint Finance Committee (JFC), State Senator Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) and State Representative John Nygren (R-Marinette), issued the following statement regarding the JFC's commitment to providing additional positions and funds to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for officer-involved shooting investigations:

"Recently, there has been a rise in officer-involved shootings both around the country and here in Wisconsin. Last May alone, the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) conducted five different officer involved shooting investigations concurrently."

"The additional positions and funds we're offering the DOJ will help ensure that incidents like these are investigated with the utmost integrity. We fully support offering the DOJ extra resources that will help with their ongoing and future investigations of officer-involved incidents."
