Strong Communities/Healthy Kids Act approved by Assembly committee
Senator Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) issued the following statement in response to the Assembly Education Committee’s 6-4 vote to approve Assembly Bill 337. Assembly Bill 337 is companion legislation to Senate Bill 237, the Strong Communities/Healthy Kids Act. AB 337/SB 237 promote the development of healthy kids through eliminating government mandates and putting important curriculum decisions in the hands of school districts.
“Instead of cookie-cutter state government mandates, the Strong Communities/Healthy Kids Act recognizes communities are different and puts major human growth and development curriculum decisions in the hands of families and school districts,” Lazich said. “I want to thank Representative Steve Kestell and members of the Assembly Education Committee for their support of this sensible, pro-children legislation.”
The Strong Communities/Healthy Kids Act is now available for a vote by the full Assembly. The Senate previously approved the bill with a 17-15 vote.
