State Senate Republicans and Democrats have had their differences of opinion during the last few months; however, they approved the cream puff as the official state dessert with a voice vote.

Senate Bill 100 is an effort spearheaded by fourth grade students at Mukwonago’s Clarendon Avenue Elementary School to make the cream puff the official state dessert. The students’ research revealed the cream puff contributes to Wisconsin’s $59 billion dairy and agriculture industries. Companies throughout the state contribute to creating the cream puff. Cream puff ingredients and supplies accompanying the cream puff are 100 percent Wisconsin.

State Senator Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) helped shepherd the bill through the Senate.

"Mrs. Coley’s students amaze me with the energy and vigor they approach this class project," Lazich said. "The students collected more than 1,000 signatures in support of making the cream puff the state dessert. At a time of cynicism about the political process, it is refreshing to see young people engaged and excited about their government."
