Lassa: State Reached Out to Joerns
Focus must now turn to helping workers and their families

Madison —State Senator Julie Lassa (D-Stevens Point) released the following statement today in reaction to news that  Joerns Healthcare will be closing its Stevens Point operations and moving the jobs to Mexico:

“The Joerns announcement is deeply disappointing.  I know from my conversations with Secretary Jadin of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation that the state reached out to Joerns many times to offer them incentives to maintain their presence in Stevens Point.  The City of Stevens Point also offered a generous package to keep those jobs here.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that Joerns was ever serious about negotiating to keep its operations in Stevens Point.

“Our focus must now be on helping more than 140 Joerns workers and their families cope with the stresses of unemployment and help them transition into new jobs.  I have already contacted Governor Walker, Mayor Halverson, WEDC, and the Department of Workforce Development to make sure that all possible resources are made available to mitigate the impact of this closing on the workers, their families, and the entire community.”
