DOT’s Law of the Month: Headlight Usage

The Department of Transportation (DOT) has selected the state’s headlight law as October’s “Law of the Month.” The DOT reminds motorists that state law requires headlight use during the hours of darkness, which the law defines as the period of time from thirty minutes after sunset to thirty minutes before sunrise and other times when natural light is not sufficient to clearly see other vehicles or pedestrians at a distance of 500 feet. Headlight laws vary from state to state, and motorists are expected to follow the laws of whatever state they are in while driving. An easy way to generally ensure abidance of the laws’ variations is to have your headlights on any time that the windshield wipers are operating.
