Summer is half over and given our last harsh winter, no one wants to think about buying propane. However, the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is offering important tips for buying propane to prepare for the winter season. Last winter, Wisconsin—and many parts of the Midwest—experienced a propane shortage due to abnormally cold weather and supply issues. The State Legislature and Governor worked to allow greater shipments of propane by truck in response to the propane shortage and to provide financial assistance to those impacted. As unpredictable as Wisconsin weather is, we can unfortunately count on cold weather returning this winter.
While it is recommended that propane users contact their propane dealer early in order to lock in a lower price, consumers should be sure to read the fine print of the purchase agreement to be aware of any stipulations in the contract.
