Due to the limits placed on property taxes in the budget bill passed last year, this year’s change in the statewide property tax levy was at the lowest level in 15 years. According to estimates by the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance (WISTAX), growth in statewide property taxes was held to 0.3% this year. WISTAX cited the property tax freeze included in the 2011-2013 state budget as the primary reason for this positive news.
Given that this number reflects a statewide average, there were some property owners that saw an actual reduction in their tax bill, while others saw an increase.
For those who have questions on how property taxes are levied in Wisconsin, the Department of Revenue's website has a section dedicated exclusively for inquiries on property taxes.
