Reducing Disaster Damage in Wisconsin
Over the last three decades, Wisconsin has incurred more than $3 billion in disaster-related property damage due to severe weather.  Natural disasters can come unexpectedly to homes and businesses.  When possible, residents should be prepared for when the unexpected comes.  The Division of Emergency Management of the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs estimates that for every dollar spent on hazard mitigation, $4 in future damages can be avoided and $5 can be avoided from flood damage.  Some mitigation solutions can be as simple as elevating a furnace in your basement.  For more hazard mitigation ideas ranging from flooding to droughts, click here.
