Prescription Drug Take Back Day on October 17th
Easily accessible prescription drugs can be dangerous in their own right, but they also are frequently a gateway for young people into illegal drugs.  One of the most effective ways to remove the potential of misuse and abuse of prescription drugs is through proper disposal.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice is coordinating a Prescription Drug Take Back Day throughout Wisconsin this Saturday, October 17th.  Prescription Drug Take Back Days, which typically are held twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall, provide a safe, convenient, and responsible way to properly dispose of prescription medications.

Those interested in getting rid of unused prescription drugs are encouraged to contact their local police or sheriff’s department to find out about local drop-off sites for the Prescription Drug Take Back Day.  As a reminder, it is important to never flush or pour unused prescription drugs down the drain, as the pharmaceuticals can enter our drinking water supply or affect our lakes and streams.
