The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) offers the No Call List, a free service that covers residential land and cell phone lines. The next quarterly deadline to sign up is August 31st. It is important to remember to renew your registration every two years to remain on the No Call List.
By adding your number to the list before the deadline, you will receive protection from unsolicited calls or text messages from telemarketers. Political calls, calls from non-profit organizations and calls made in response to a purchase or by request are not covered by the No Call List.
Currently, legislation I have authored to make the No Call List permanent and prohibit robocalls for those registered on the No Call List has passed committee and is waiting to be taken up by the State Senate. Senate Bill 97 (SB 97) would remove the requirement for Wisconsin residents to sign-up for the No Call List every two years by adopting the federal No Call List in Wisconsin. In addition, SB 97 would prohibit robocalls to those on the No Call List with very limited exceptions such as school and emergency notification messages. You can find out more about this legislation by clicking here.
