May 20-26 is Emerald Ash Borer Awareness Week
Governor Walker has proclaimed May 20th – 26th as Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) Awareness Week and urges Wisconsin residents to become more informed about this growing problem.  EAB is a beetle native to Asia that attacks all species of North American ash trees, ultimately killing infected trees.  The most common way these beetles spread is through transporting firewood.  The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has provided the following tips to help slow the spread of EAB around the state:
·         Do not move firewood from the counties under quarantine (Brown, Crawford, La Crosse, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Vernon and Washington)
·         Buy firewood locally instead of transporting it over long distances
·         Learn about the signs and symptoms of EAB infestation,
·         Report ash trees that show signs of infestation by calling 1-800-462-2803
