Hunter and Trapper Education Courses
If you are interested in hunting or trapping for the first time this year, you may want to start preparing in advance by taking a hunter or trapper education course.  The DNR offers various options for hunter education including basic hunter education courses offered in a classroom setting, an Internet field day with an online course, and an adult online hunter education test out.  Anyone born on or after January 1, 1973 must complete a hunter education course and show the certificate in order to purchase any hunting license in Wisconsin.  This requirement does not apply to those hunting under the hunting mentorship program or those who have successfully completed basic training in the U.S. Armed Forces, Reserves, or National Guard.
Additionally, trapper education courses are generally held over a weekend and a correspondence course is also available.  Those who have not previously purchased a trapping license and are not actively engaged in farming must complete a trapper education course.
