Wisconsin’s first wolf hunt began just before sunrise on October 15th. A lottery system was put in place and 1,160 people were allowed to buy a wolf permit. Approximately 20,000 people applied and as of Monday morning, 599 state permits were purchased as well as 6 out-of-state permits. During this season up to 201 wolves can be harvested of which 85 are reserved for Native American tribes. The wolf hunt is set to run until February 28, 2013 but will end sooner if the quota is met.
