Expanding Job Opportunities for Those with Disabilities
With a focus on providing job opportunities and putting people back to work, the Governor has designated 2014 as the “Year of a Better Bottom Line.”  This designation includes an emphasis on employment opportunities for those with disabilities.  Earlier this session the State Legislature approved additional funding for Project SEARCH, which assists students with significant disabilities in transitioning from high school to the workforce.  Students between the ages of 18-21 take part in three internships during their final year of high school where they learn valuable hands-on skills to prepare themselves for employment in their chosen field.  The additional funding will significantly reduce waiting lists for students to enter into Project SEARCH.  We are fortunate to have the local Walmart Distribution Center in Menomonie participating in this program.  For more information contact Molly Michels, Wisconsin Project SEARCH Statewide Coordinator, at or (608) 261-7816, or visit
