Some say that in Wisconsin there are two seasons—winter and road construction. With the beautiful months of summer upon us, it seems that orange construction cones are springing up all over our state resulting in challenges as families and individuals navigate to their destinations.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) launched a new project called Wisconsin 511. This program creates two new tools that travelers can use to remain informed on construction projects. The new Wisconsin 511 construction project website gives visitors details on closures, travel times, project news and updates, schedules, and maps. The DOT has also launched a new Twitter page @511WI where you can follow a real-time update of construction projects. Twitter accounts for regional DOT offices have also been set up to keep drivers informed on local construction projects.
Easy links to the various 511 Twitter sites, as well as to other DOT social media sites are available on the DOT’s Stay Connected website, http://www.dot.wi.gov/util/stayconnected.htm, or visit the DOT’s construction project website for more in-depth information.
