DNR Surpasses Certification of More Than One Million Students in Hunter Safety Program Since its Inception
More than 25,000 students completed a hunter safety program in 2011, bringing the total enrollment since the program’s beginning to over one million students. The hunter safety program, which started in Dunn County in 1967, seeks to instill knowledge and skill sets to be a responsible and safe hunter. A true testament to the volunteer hunter safety instructors and hunters practicing safety measures is evidenced by there being no gun-related fatalities during the 2010 and 2011 gun-deer seasons. Courses for the 2012 hunting season are already underway. To find a class near you please visit the Department of Natural Resources website at www.dnr.wi.gov.
