The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced that Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) was detected in a wild adult doe found on private property west of Shell Lake in Washburn County.
In order to determine if the disease is present in other wild deer, the DNR will begin a focused disease surveillance effort within the area the deer was found.
Due to this positive test, the DNR is required to place a ban on feeding and baiting for any county within 10 miles of the site.
The ban is anticipated to begin this fall and will affect four counties including Polk and Burnett Counties.
