The Wisconsin State Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP) would like to alert consumers of a potential scam that has been reported by numerous Wisconsin residents. While most Wisconsinites are looking for extra ways to earn a living, the DATCP states that any work-at-home proposal that requires an upfront fee is probably a scam.
DATCP has been alerted to a New Jersey-based company that promises cash for stuffing envelopes. This company pledges anywhere from $10-20 for stuffing each envelope or assembling a packet. Additionally, the company asks for up-front payments in order to supply a list of companies that would receive these packets and envelopes or additional fees before sending any further information out.
DATCP cautions consumers to contact them before responding to solicitations to verify their legitimacy. Visit the Consumer Protection Bureau at http://datcp.wisconsin.gov, send an e-mail to email@example.com or call the Consumer Protection Hotline toll-free at 1-800-422-7128.
