Consumer Protection Alert - Beware of Phone Scam
The Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has issued a consumer alert warning people of a BadgerCare Plus health care scam. The Department indicated that scammers are making calls to BadgerCare Plus members alleging to represent the State of Wisconsin and are asking callers for their bank account information in order to deposit a $200 stipend. Please note that the actual Badger Care Plus program, administered by the Department of Health Services, will already have your account information. DATCP advises that you should never provide financial information over the phone unless you initiated the call. If you think you have been scammed, please visit the Consumer Protection Bureau to file a consumer protection complaint. The Consumer Protection Bureau may be reached at 1-800-422-7128, datcp.wisconsin.gov, or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
