Changes Coming to "Do Not Call" List
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is reminding residents of new changes going into effect August 1st to Wisconsin’s “Do Not Call” list which will greatly benefit Wisconsin consumers. As a result of legislation Senator Harsdorf cosponsored this session that was enacted into law as 2013 Wisconsin Act 234, consumers will no longer be required to reregister their phone numbers every two years in order to continue receiving protection under state law from telemarketing calls and text messages. Additionally, the registration of a new telephone number now takes effect the following day rather than having to wait until the next quarter. All telephone numbers currently on the Wisconsin’s “Do Not Call” Registry will be automatically transferred to the Federal Trade Commission’s nationwide list and will remain there permanently. Wisconsin consumers can register their cell, landline, or VoIP numbers online here or by calling 1-888-382-1222 from the number they wish to register. Visit DATCP’s website http://datcp.wi.gov/news/?Id=1128 for more information on confirming phone registration, reporting unwanted calls, and specifics on the new law.
