Wirch Applauds Bipartisan Support for Casino Project

Madison- Senator Bob Wirch (D-Somers) released the following statement regarding the growing coalition speaking out in support of the Menominee Tribe’s proposed casino in Kenosha:

“This project is important to the people of Kenosha and Racine, and this is clear by the bipartisan support that it has received. Representatives Kerkman and Weatherston and County Executive Ladwig recognize that the casino project represents the free enterprise system at its best. It’s not government stimulus – it’s the private sector creating good-paying jobs. We should listen to the people and the free market, not one individual tribe with a monopoly, and move the project forward.”

The Menonimee Tribe’s proposal for a casino and entertainment complex at the former Dairyland Dog Racing Track would create 1,400 construction jobs and over 5,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs in the Kenosha and Racine areas. It was recently given the go-ahead by the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs and now awaits the approval of Governor Walker before construction can begin.
