Sen. Howard Marklein Statement on Governor's Veto of Middle-Class Tax Cut Bill

Madison, WI – Senator Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) offered the following statement regarding Governor Tony Evers’ veto of the Middle-Class Tax Cut bill:

“I am disappointed that the Governor decided to veto the Middle Class Tax Cut legislation that I co-authored. I felt that our bill was a good way for all of us to come together. Our bill provided tax relief AND continued to fund important priorities without taking from one group to give to another.”

“It is unfortunate that our citizens will have to wait for the budget process before seeing a tax cut. This would have been a positive way to use the surplus revenue that has been generated because of all of the positive reforms we have enacted for the past eight years.”

Marklein represents the 17th Senate District, which includes all or parts Grant, Green, Iowa, Juneau, Lafayette, Monroe, Richland, Sauk and Vernon counties. Marklein serves on the legislature’s budget-writing Joint Finance Committee and is Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Revenue & Financial Institutions.
