Governor Signs Marklein Bills for Broadband, Banks and the Badgers
Telecommuter Forward Certification, Financial Institution Modernization and legislation to allow sports’ teams doctors to work in Wisconsin signed into law.

MADISON – Governor Scott Walker Signed three bills authored by State Senator Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) on Monday, April 16, 2018.

“I am particularly excited about the potential for Act 342, which creates the Telecommuter Forward! Community Certification program for Wisconsin,” Marklein said. “While we continue to focus on improving broadband in rural Wisconsin, we are also seeking opportunities to promote the communities that have great broadband because they are also great communities in which to live and work! This community certification will help communities promote themselves to people who can telecommute and to the companies who hire telecommuters.”

“Our communities are terrific places to live. We have superb schools, safe neighborhoods and reasonable costs of living. We also have communities, like Reedsburg, that have super-fast internet connections available for nearly every household!” Marklein said. “Telecommuter Forward! Certification will provide a promotional tool for a community like Reedsburg to encourage people who can telecommute to live and work in Reedsburg.  It will also encourage companies that hire people for telecommuting jobs to recruit in a community like Reedsburg that has terrific broadband.”

The bills signed into law, authored by Senator Marklein include:

Act 342 – Telecommuter Forward! Community certification
While we often focus on the gaps in broadband throughout the rural areas, we have several communities that have terrific broadband. These places are also great place to live and work!

Telecommuter Forward! Certification will be available to communities that have great broadband so that they can promote themselves as good places for telecommuters to live and work – and for companies that hire telecommuters to recruit.

Authored by Senator Howard Marklein (R—Spring Green) and Representative Romaine Quinn (R—Barron), the bill passed the Assembly on a voice vote and was concurred by the Senate on a voice vote. It is Act 342.

Act 340 – Financial Institutions Modernization
This legislation makes several changes relating to financial institutions and the Department of Financial Institutions. It is a technical bill that modernizes state statutes related to the banking industry. Authored by Senator Howard Marklein (R—Spring Green) and Representative Terry Katsma (R—Oostburg), the bill passed the Assembly on a voice vote and was concurred by the Senate on a voice vote. It is Act 340.

Act 341 – Sports Doctor
When sports teams come to Wisconsin to compete at the college and professional level, they often bring their own medical team. This law generally exempts out-of-state licensed physicians practicing at sporting events or facilities in Wisconsin from being required to be licensed in this state. Team doctors can serve their teams legally without being licensed in Wisconsin.
