New UW-Whitewater Dorm Project Moves Forward
Madison – Today, the State of Wisconsin Building Commission unanimously approved the design and authority to construct a new residence hall at UW-Whitewater.
“Since I was appointed to the Building Commission in January 2015 it has been one of my main priorities to get this project moving. This project was supposed to start in 2014 and was delayed for far too long. I am extremely pleased UW-Whitewater will be able to begin construction and students will able to move in before the 2019 school year,” said Ringhand.
Due to increased enrollment, UW-Whitewater has experienced a housing shortage the last 10 years. To meet demand the University has been leasing off-campus housing and converting lounges into temporary housing for students.
“UW-Whitewater is one of the gems of the UW-System,” Senator Ringhand added. “Families understand that UW-Whitewater is a world class institution providing an affordable and accessible college education right in our own back yard.”
The new residence hall will accommodate 410 students and will feature a laundry room, a building wide kitchen, a multipurpose/TV room, and collaborative learning rooms.
“It is very important that students can live on-campus because studies have shown that students who live on-campus get better grades, and are more likely to graduate in 4 years,” concluded Senator Ringhand.
