State Senator Luther Olsen Calls for Audit on Operations at King
Concerns about patient care lead to request

Madison…Senator Luther Olsen (R-Ripon) today formally requested an audit of the operations, finances, and staffing at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King after hearing concerns regarding these issues.

“It has been brought to my attention that there are concerns with the care that members are receiving at King, especially as there have been an increase in the amount of veterans that have been admitted with more acute medical, mental health, and behavioral care needs,” said Senator Luther Olsen. “We must make sure our veterans are receiving the best possible care and staff are being adequately trained to address the current needs of their members.”

The audit request was sent today to the Co-Chairs of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee. This request specifically asks the Legislative Audit Bureau to look at finances, staffing levels, family and staff satisfaction, reports brought to King’s ombudsman and condition of the facility.

“I believe this audit request should be approved by the Joint Legislative Audit Committee, and these concerns should be investigated by the non-partisan Legislative Audit Bureau. The veterans at King have earned our gratitude and respect for their service, and it is our job to make sure their quality of life at King is the best it can be,” said Senator Olsen.

As noted in the audit request, the Legislative Audit Bureau has not audited the veterans homes since 2011 (report 11-3). If the Joint Legislative Audit Committee approves the audit request, the Legislative Audit Bureau will begin looking into these issues.
