Wisconsin Senate Approves “Safe at Home”

[Madison, WI]  Early in a lengthy session calendar, the Wisconsin Senate approved Senate Bill 488, a bipartisan measure that creates an address confidentiality program within the Department of Justice. Senator Scott Fitzgerald released the following statement:

“I am proud to have sponsored this common sense measure that provides protection to survivors of domestic abuse, stalking, and human trafficking. The freedom to feel safe in one’s home is absolutely essential for survivors as they attempt to rebuild their lives, and this bill aims to provide that security.

Today, Wisconsin took another step in joining the more than 30 other states that currently offer similar protections. It is my sincere hope that this program will make a real difference in the lives of survivors.”

The bill, authored by both Senate Majority Leader Fitzgerald and Minority Leader Shilling, passed unanimously through committee in both houses and was unopposed in the Senate.

Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) represent the 13th Senate District, which covers portions of Dodge, Jefferson, Waukesha, Washington, Dane, and Columbia counties.
