Schachtner Highlights Responses, Outreach to 8,000 Constituent Contacts

As a legislator, I am honored to be a resource and an advocate for western Wisconsin. I am a lifelong resident of St. Croix County, and it is my privilege to bring our voice down to Madison. Since taking office in February 2018, I have processed more than 8,000 constituent contacts from people seeking to be engaged with state government. I believe in dialogue, and I am thankful for all the questions and feedback I have received over the course of my term. As always, please feel free to contact me by calling (608) 266-7745, e-mailing Sen.Schachtner@legis.wisconsin.gov, or sending a letter to Room 3 South, State Capitol P.O. Box 7882 Madison, WI 53703.

REM Wisconsin - Glenmeadow Visit Recap

I met with residents and staff during a tour of REM Wisconsin - Glenmeadow last Monday.  REM Wisconsin provides services to individuals with an intellectual or developmental disability. They also serve adults living with a brain injury or mental disorder. REM Wisconsin’s mission is to provide opportunities for growth and independence for all individuals, regardless of the barriers that they may face. I’m amazed by REM Wisconsin’s strong sense of community, and I’m grateful for their efforts to create safe and inclusive homes for our neighbors.

Freedom Park Walking Trail Groundbreaking

On Saturday, I joined VFW Post 10818, the City of New Richmond, and the 652nd Engineer Company for the groundbreaking celebration of the Freedom Park Walking Trail. Wisconsin has a rich outdoors heritage and strong tourism economy. In 2018, tourism had a $21.6 billion impact in Wisconsin and resulted in $117.7 million in direct visitor spending in St. Croix County. I’m pleased to see New Richmond continue to develop great trails and attractions for residents and tourists to enjoy.

Wisconsin National Guard Sendoff Ceremony

I was honored to attend a sendoff ceremony of the Wisconsin National Guard 1st Battalion, 128th Infantry Regiment last Sunday. The Eau Claire-based battalion is close to 400 soldiers strong and includes residents from Menomonie, New Richmond, Rice Lake, Arcadia, and River Falls. Elected officials including Governor Tony Evers and U.S. Rep. Ron Kind spoke words of encouragement at the ceremony. The battalion will deploy to Afghanistan this summer in support of Operation Freedom Sentinel.
