Military Consumer Protection Month
Resources for Wisconsin Servicemembers and Their Families
July is Military Consumer Protection Month! The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) wants to share ways the Bureau of Consumer Protection can help you and your family with consumer issues while you are home or deployed.
There are a number of resources available to help your family avoid scams and deal with frustrating consumer issues. Below are some ways the Bureau of Consumer Protection supports our military families:
- The DATCP website is a great starting point to search for answers or helpful tips. Facts sheets on the site that provide useful information on a wide range of consumer issues like home improvement, false advertising, landlord/tenant rights and more.
- The DATCP Consumer Protection Hotline is available weekdays from 7:45am to 4:30pm to answer any questions and guide you toward potential solutions. Reach the hotline at (800) 422-7128 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Are you involved with a group for servicemembers or veterans? DATCP offers presentations on consumer issues like scams and identity theft. Request a Consumer Protection Bureau presentation on the DATCP website.
- Military families face unique challenges that could put them at risk of identity theft. If your family or friends believe their identity is being misused, they can visit DATCP’s identity theft protection website or contact the Consumer Protection Hotline to work with an identity theft specialist.
