Sen. LeMahieu Introduces Online Voter Registration
Madison – On Friday, Sen. Devin LeMahieu (R-Oostburg), along with Rep. Kathy Bernier (R-Chippewa Falls) and Rep. Terese Berceau (D-Madison), introduced the Elections Technology, Access and Security Bill. Included in the package is a provision to authorize online voter registration in Wisconsin.
Senator LeMahieu, Chair of the Senate Elections and Local Government Committee, released the following statement:
“Wisconsin’s strong voter ID law has finally taken effect. We now need to take steps to strengthen the security of the voter registration process in order to prevent voter fraud.
“Online voter registration will reduce the errors associated with traditional paper registrations. By requiring a driver’s license to register online, and joining a nationwide network in the Electronic Registration Information Center, we are also ensuring the highest possible standard to protect the integrity of our elections. This legislation will help bring Wisconsin’s elections laws into the 21st century.”
The Elections Technology, Access and Security Bill has been introduced as Senate Bill 295. The bill will receive a public hearing before a joint committee meeting on Tuesday.
