Wisconsin lawmakers hope to help first responders with PTSD
by WBAY
MADISON, Wis. (WBAY) -- Two state lawmakers are introducing a bill to help first responders suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
State Representative Andre Jacque and State Senator Van Wanggaard are proposing the bill to help reduce barriers that keep lawenforcement, firefighters or other emergency responders from getting necessary treatment.
Under current law, employers are liable for a single event that may lead to a mental injury; but this bill will also make them liable for day-to-day stresses first responders face as well, since they often deal with death, danger, and violence.
Rep. Jacque and Sen. Van Wanggaard are looking for people to co-sponsor the bill before presenting it later this month.
