Three veterans bills introduced in Legislature

MADISON, Wis. (WBAY) - Three bills aimed at helping veterans, their families and their organizations are now being circulated in Madison.
One would lower the threshold for an eligible veteran or surviving spouse to claim a property tax credit. Right now the veteran must have a service-connected disability rating of 100 percent. The bill would lower that requirement to 70 percent and ties the amount of the tax credit to that rating.
Another bill would give veteran services the same sales tax and use tax exemptions given to other charitable organizations.
A third bill would give free specialty plates to veterans who receive a Medal of Honor, Purple Heart, Distinguished Service Cross, Navy Cross, Air Force DSA or who survived Pearl Harbor.
Rep. Andre Jacque (R-De Pere), who co-sponsored the bills, says they have bipartisan support.
"I am honored and humbled to be able to bring this legislation forward on behalf of those that I serve and behalf of those who have served our country honorable and have sacrificed so much for our freedom," Jacque said.
