New law lets towns partner on TIF districts
One of the bills that Governor Walker signed into law yesterday could help town governments work with neighboring communities, on development projects.
Rep. Andre Jacque of De Pere worked on the proposal. It will let towns partner with villages and cities to create TIF districts that cross municipal borders.
The Republican says there are a couple of places they could work, in the Green Bay area. Jacque says the towns of Ledgeview and Lawrence are interested in creating a TIF with De Pere. He says the change could also be used to help spur development in the Ashland Avenue corridor.
Jacque says communities should work together on a regional basis, when it comes to growth. He says when they're competing with each other, that leads to larger incentives for businesses.
